About the Author

Martin Morana is the author of books and articles on various subjects related to his island home.

He graduated from the University of Malta in 1992, where he read History as his main subject with Archaeology, Social Anthropology and Mediterranean Studies as subsidiaries. He joined the National Museums Department, and later became a licensed polyglot tourist guide. He worked for 28 years with the Malta Tourism Authority, first as liaison executive handling German speaking media and subsequently as Events Manager in charge of numerous and varied spectacular and entertaining events.

His love for anything to do with local culture and history has resulted in various studies on archaeological and anthropological themes. His works include the three volumes: Bejn Kliem u Storja; Ara X'Int Tgħid and Biex il-Kliem Ikun Sew. All three books form an encyclopaedic corpus that describe mostly archaic or lost Maltese words. He also wrote two monographs, on the Hypogeum, a prehistoric underground archaeological site at Paola and the prehistoric cave of Għar Dalam, situated near Birżebbuġa. He has also published numerous articles on Maltese culture, in Maltese and in English, in various periodicals.
