• It is best for the driver who values fuel efficiency, low wind noise, and versatility across multiple vehicles.
• It is best for the adventure enthusiast who needs to transport bulky gear like canoes or heavy cargo boxes on a compatible vehicle.
The Malone AirFlow2 stands out immediately as a solution for drivers who refuse to compromise on the driving experience itself. When I look at the specifications, the first thing that jumps out is the construction material: non-corrosive aluminum double wall. This isn't just about durability against rain or road salt; it is about keeping the overall weight down so you aren't fighting the car's engine every time you merge onto the highway. At just eight pounds, this rack is nearly invisible in terms of mass. You install it, drive off, and the only thing you might notice is the absence of extra drag. The aerodynamic profile is engineered specifically to slice through the air, reducing wind noise significantly compared to bulkier, boxy alternatives. If you have ever hated the roaring sound of a cheap plastic rack while trying to listen to your music, this is the fix.
The integration of T-slots is where the true value lies for the gear head. Unlike standard racks that rely on clamps which can slip or require complex tightening procedures, the AirFlow2 uses key-locking security attachment towers that slide directly into these slots. This allows you to attach accessories quickly and securely without fumbling with loose bolts. Whether you are mounting a kayak carrier, a bike tray, or a cargo basket, the connection is solid. The cam assist bolts are another brilliant feature for the everyday user. They ensure a tight fit even on smaller side rails, and the entire installation process requires absolutely no tools. You can mount this yourself in minutes, right in your driveway, and be ready to go before your coffee gets cold.
However, this product is not for everyone. The 165-pound load capacity is the defining limitation here. If you plan to carry a large canoe filled with water, a full-size ladder, or a massive cargo box packed to the brim, this rack will not be strong enough. Furthermore, because it is a universal design, it relies on your vehicle having side rails that match its specific clamp range. It is not a "fit-all" magic wand; it fits most, but you must verify your rail type. If you own a RAV4 and want a rack that feels custom-made rather than universally adapted, the AirFlow2 might feel slightly generic compared to a dedicated unit. It is perfect for the commuter or weekend warrior who wants reliability and silence, but it lacks the brute force needed for extreme hauling.

The moment you see the 260-pound load capacity, you understand the intent behind this design. This is not a rack for light luggage; it is a heavy-duty workhorse capable of moving substantial weight. The manufacturer specifies that it can handle luggage, roof bags, cargo boxes, bikes, surfboards, kayaks, canoes, sporting equipment, and even ladders. That last item—a ladder—is telling. Carrying a ladder on a roof rack requires stability and strength that many lighter racks cannot provide. With a capacity nearly double that of the AirFlow2, the FLYCLE offers a level of confidence when loading up for a big move or a long camping trip that you simply do not get with lighter systems.
Another critical factor for the RAV4 owner is the specificity of the fit. The FLYCLE is engineered exclusively for 2019-2025 Toyota RAV4 models, explicitly excluding the Adventure, TRD Off-Road, Hybrid Woodland Edition, and certain LE trims. This exclusivity is a double-edged sword, but for those whose vehicle matches the criteria, it is a massive advantage. Because it is tailored to the exact dimensions and rail height of these specific years, the installation feels more precise than a universal clamp. The design eliminates the guesswork of whether a bolt will tighten enough or if a clamp will slip. The package includes everything needed for a simple installation that takes only 10 to 15 minutes, requiring no drilling. This precision fit ensures that the rack sits flush and stable, minimizing any potential wobble at highway speeds.
Security is also a major selling point in this category. The FLYCLE comes equipped with a metal anti-theft lock system designed to offer 100% anti-theft protection. In a world where roof racks sitting empty on a street corner are tempting targets for thieves looking for the gear attached to them, having a locking mechanism integrated into the bars themselves provides peace of mind. The high-quality aluminum alloy construction ensures that the rack remains lightweight despite its heavy-duty capabilities, resisting corrosion over time. The aerodynamic shape helps reduce wind resistance and noise, addressing one of the few complaints associated with heavier racks. However, you must be aware that this is a single-vehicle solution. If you sell your RAV4 or switch to a different make and model, this rack becomes useless unless you find another compatible vehicle. It is a specialized tool for a specific job, offering immense power and security for the right owner.
• Best for Universal Compatibility → Malone AirFlow2. If you own multiple cars or a vehicle with non-standard rails, the universal fit and adjustable clamps make it the flexible choice.
• Best for Weight and Fuel Economy → Malone AirFlow2.
Designed specifically for 2019-2025 RAV4s, it offers a seamless, custom appearance and precise fit that universal racks struggle to match.
• Best for Accessory Versatility → Malone AirFlow2. The integrated T-slots allow for easy attachment of various accessories without needing additional adapters or complex hardware.
The upgraded metal anti-theft lock system provides robust protection against theft, whereas the Malone relies on standard locking towers.
• Best for Quick, Tool-Free Setup → Malone AirFlow2. The cam assist bolts allow for a rapid installation with zero tools required, making it ideal for spontaneous trips.
The heavy-duty aluminum construction is rated for higher stress loads, making it superior for frequent, heavy hauling.
After weighing the specifications and real-world use cases, my recommendation depends entirely on what you intend to carry. If your goal is to take your family tailgating with a few coolers, some chairs, and maybe a small cargo box, the Malone AirFlow2 is the smarter investment. Its lightweight design means you won't sacrifice fuel economy, and the T-slots give you the flexibility to add gear later without buying new parts. For the specific task of tailgating, I would lean toward the Malone AirFlow2 because it balances ease of use, low noise, and sufficient capacity for typical party gear without feeling cumbersome. But for the ultimate hauling power, the FLYCLE wins.
It does not fit the Adventure, TRD Off-Road, Hybrid Woodland Edition, or certain 2022-2024 LE trims, so you must verify your specific trim before purchasing.
This is sufficient for most recreational gear but falls short of the heavy-duty requirements met by the FLYCLE.
Neither rack requires drilling.
Both feature aerodynamic designs to reduce wind noise, but the Malone AirFlow2 is often praised for its ultra-low profile and light weight, which typically results in less wind turbulence and noise compared to heavier, wider racks like the FLYCLE.
