WORKSHOP ON

INFECTIOUS DISEASE MODELLING

- MALARIA

Organised by the

National Disease Modelling Consortium IIT Bombay

November 28 - 29, 2023

The workshop aims to train potential mathematical/statistical modelers to enable better understanding of the key concepts in infectious disease modeling, in particular on malaria transmission and its control. An overview of malaria: its history, epidemiology, control and current status will be provided. National efforts on malaria elimination and monitoring programs will also be discussed. Additionally, participants will be introduced to the individual-based simulation model, OpenMalaria, including its features, strengths and limitations. A hands-on workshop will be conducted by Mr. Lars Kamber and Dr. Thiery Masserey from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), wherein participants will be shown how to install and run OpenMalaria, and will be provided scripts (in Python and/or R) to run small simulation experiments with OpenMalaria and plot results. These experiments will include comparing the impact of various malaria control strategies in reducing clinical malaria incidence.
