Around September 2012 the company stated that for their new Replicator 2 they "will not share the way the physical machine is designed or our GUI".[53] This departure from the previous open-source hardware model was criticized by part of the community,[54] including co-founder (and now former employee) Zachary Smith.[16]The fifth generation of printers (new Replicator, Mini and Z18) are significantly more closed than previous models. With these models, MakerBot transitioned from open source hardware controllers, extruders, and firmware to proprietary versions of the above. They also changed print file formats from the S3G format used by earlier printers to the new .makerbot format.[citation needed]

I've downloaded the new makerprint and it's not finding printer, I also downloaded makerbot desktop and it won't open. Am I doing something simple that's wrong. I thought maybe software on printer is old but I don't know how to upgrade that without it being connected first.

will the x3gwriter plugin work for using cura with my makerbot replicator+? i am needing a better software program than makerbot print since this program has very limited settings. makerbot print does not allow for fine tuning retraction & many more settings that other programs like cura have. i found the x3gwriter plugin that claims to make a slice usable by other printers but i wanted to ask here first.

i realize this is a cura forum but if anyone knows of a quality software program that will work with makerbot replicator will you please note it here? plz & thank you. i am getting dog doo prints using makerbot print b/c it has poop for settings adjustment or not the settings at all.

This tutorial will show you how to create a .makerbot file using the new MakerBot Print software. The new MakerBot Print software is available on all iMacs at your local Media Commons location. It has a new interface and completely re-written slicing engine for improved results. You can also download and install it on your own computer for free by visiting MakerBot Print. Once the software is installed, proceed with this tutorial.

Now you are ready to export the .makerbot file. Click Export in the bottom right. Uncheck Hide extension so you can see the filetype. Name your file taking care to not delete the .makerbot file suffix. Save the file to your Desktop.

Hello, my makerbot 2 has been plagued with random extrusion problems for months, even after swapping the whole hotend, and its sitting useless right now. I'd like to just completely swap to an E3D system, but I think I can keep my stepper motor. Is there a way I can fit a direct drive system into the makerbot rep 2? ff782bc1db
