When I saw this announcement, I seized the opportunity to attempt breaking news coverage. I got a quick instructional call from my editor and was tasked to write all the important information in as little time as possible. I wrote with fury and it went through the editing cycle with speed but no one could get hold of someone who had access to the layout. I made countless calls and texts trying to find the correct layout before the breaking news would turn into just news. Thankfully, someone eventually found last year's design that worked.

This piece, though short, was some of the most fun I have had getting coverage. My team doesn't have a social media staffer, so my photographer and I will often work together to get something on Instagram, even though social media is neither of our niches. I recently wrote a feature on the teacher of this class and through my relationship with her, I was able to attend this event and got to witness a bamboo tower nearly topple but only after an anvil was placed on top of it.
