This page is a resource for anyone making masks at home. Here you will find information on which facilities in the SF/Bay Area are in need, as well as recommended patterns for Mask & Scrub Cap making.
Please do your part to social distance. This means, please stay home, arrange a curbside pickup, do not go to the fabric stores to buy fabric. We are all trying to “flatten the curve” and while our efforts will help, it will be more harmful if you catch the virus or if you have it and do not know it. We are working to identify who has fabric to share (hopefully near where you live) where we can use front porch pickup/drop off to share supplies
Please ensure that your workspace has been disinfected upon beginning to make any PPE
Please ensure that you have washed your hands according to CDC hand-washing guidelines before beginning to make any PPE
Wet your hands with clean, running water, turn off the tap and apply soap
Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end TWICE.
Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them
Please refrain from touching your face while making PPE

100% Cotton
Cotton/Poly blend (50% cotton or more)
Lighter colors are preferred (so as to easily identify soiled material)
Flannel
Denim
Spandex
Latex Elastic
Muslin
We recommend using fabric ties as opposed to elastic. Feedback on elastic tie masks suggests that the elastic melts in autoclave during sterilization when it is being washed by healthcare facilities.
Bias tape is acceptable.
Please wash your fabric on HOT
Place in Dryer to PRESHRINK fabric before beginning
Ironing after it is dry can be helpful
