Abby and DeAnna love to teach and create. As former children, they believe that childhood is for play, imagination, curiosity and whimsy, especially during the summer! As mothers, they believe summer is a special time for making memories and trying new things, especially ones that can spark creativity and build a good foundation for the people they will become when they grow up.
These beliefs are what inspired us to create a camp that offers:
Personalized Guidance:
Benefit from the support of dedicated teen Music Mentors! With a low student-to-mentor ratio (approximately 2:1), you'll receive individualized attention, expert modeling of posture and playing technique, and one-on-one help whenever you need it.
Inspiring Peer Support:
Our Music Mentors will participate in all activities alongside you, offering encouragement and demonstrating best practices. Whether you're a beginner needing extra help or an intermediate player looking for a challenge, our mentors are there to guide you.
Engaging Instruction:
Led by experienced instructors Abigail Korfmann and Deanna Shegda, you'll receive top-notch musical training in a fun and supportive environment. Instructors will be actively circulating to ensure everyone is progressing and engaged.
More Than Just Music:
Get ready for a themed adventure reminiscent of your favorite childhood VBS! We're weaving a captivating Treasure Hunt story throughout the week, complete with daily skits that bring musical concepts and character traits to life.
Daily Challenges & Character Building:
Put your musical skills and character to the test with exciting daily challenges. We'll also focus on valuable character traits, recognizing students who exemplify them each day with input from our Music Mentors.
Final Performance Showcase:
Just like the grand finale of VBS, you'll have the chance to shine and showcase your musical journey in a concluding program!
Creating this has been a dream come true, and we can't wait to share it with you!
Abby Korfmann lives in Spartanburg and has a passion for introducing children to ensemble playing. She loves to create the kind of magical music spaces she wished for as a young musician. As a former homeschool mom and public school orchestra director, she is a dedicated music educator that desires to make music accessible for everyone.
DeAnna Shegda is a music teacher from Mauldin. She homeschools her two sons and also teaches piano and cello lessons. She performs for events and plays in church as well. Orchestra was always her favorite subject in school and she wants other students to have that experience too!
