About

Makaylah Clark is a Black women artist and lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio. Clark creates colorful and dreamy character-based artwork that works together to tell a story. She uses a mix of common and unique materials, including crayons, colored pens, stickers, metallic ink, wax pastels, and pressed plants. Many of her artworks use bold and saturated colors. Together the materials and colors help create many textures that bring the work together and give the characters a life of their own.

Artist Statement

My artwork explores the use of color material and character design to tell a story. I like to create diverse character-centered artwork. A character’s looks alone can tell a lot about them. I use a mix of mediums and techniques to give each of my characters their own unique style. I love to use bold, bright, and eye chatting colors. The colors I use help create a sense of fantasy and contrast the less colorful world around us. 

I want to showcase fantasy work that’s inclusive to people inside and outside my community. I’m inspired by many artists around the world who integrate their culture and identity into their artwork. I give each character unique clothes, eyes hair, and accessories. In many cultures clothes, accessories and even hair can tell a lot about someone like their job and Family origin.
