DESIGN

A LI MI A is a Crow word meaning “a place to go to get help to help yourself.” It is also a Native not-for profit organization whose mission is to provide information, resources, training and support for Native American people of all tribes in entrepreneurship, education, housing and human rights. It conducts community projects essential to a self-sufficient future for Native American communities.

The 2,000-square-foot building will be non-load bearing straw-bale construction, incorporating many natural materials. Rooted in community collaboration, the design is based on the Crow belief in the Morning Star, a guide star that gave Crow warriors direction in the wilderness.
