There are many unanswered questions related to the toxic spill.
We encourage neighbors to contact the Town of Erie and Civitas to get answers.
Here are some questions to ask:
What are the short-term and long-term health impacts of the spill? Is my family safe? Are my pets safe?
The Town says that "the release and subsequent contamination is of great concern and requires significant work to remedy", but there is no danger. How can they be so sure?
Now that we know that the second round of toxic soil excavation is April 11th: How will it be removed? How will the dust from the excavation be mitigated along Meller St where our kids walk and ride to school?
When will the neighborhood be notified directly of any soil removal? How will we be notified?
How do we keep kids and pets from entering the contaminated space?
How will the space be restored so that it does not impact our property values? How can the neighborhood have a say in the restoration?
We are asking the Town of Erie and Civitas for the following:
A neutral third-party and medically approved evaluation and presentation of the short- and long-term risks of exposure to the toxins found in the soil. Information about such a presentation would be directly conveyed to residents of the neighborhood.
Creative ways that we can restore and renew the space in such a way that preserves the integrity and property values in our neighborhood.
