M. Majid Butt

Short Biography: 

Dr. Majid Butt received PhD and MS degrees in telecommunication from Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway and Christian Albrechts University, Kiel, Germany, respectively. He is senior staff research specialist at Nokia, USA.  Before that, he has held various research positions at University of Glasgow, UK, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, Germany, University of Luxembourg and Qatar University. He is recipient of Marie curie Alain Bensoussan postdoctoral fellowship from the European Commission.  

Dr. Majid’s major areas of research interest include communication techniques for wireless networks, focusing mainly on radio resource allocation, scheduling algorithms, cooperative communications, energy harvesting, green communication and machine learning for wireless networks. He has authored more than 80 articles in peer reviewed conferences, journals and book chapters. He also has contributed to more than 100 filed/granted patent families in cellular networks domain and was declared outstanding inventor of the year for years 2021, 2022 and 2023.

He is a senior member of IEEE and IEEE Comsoc distinguished lecturer for the class 2022-2023. He serves as an associate editor for the IEEE Open journal of the Communication Society, IEEE Open journal of the Vehicular Technology and has previously served as IEEE communication magazine associate editor from 2016-2021. He was selected best editor for IEEE Open journal of the communication society in 2023.
