Hello, I’m Maria Beatriz Sá, a 23-year-old Cinema graduate from Lisbon Theatre and Film School (ESTC). I've been working as a Video Assistant and, occasionally, as a Second Assistant Camera.
I've been drawn to visual storytelling for a long time., particularly through photography. During high school, my interest in film grew, shaping the professional path I continue to pursue today.
I aspire to become a camera operator and I have already played this role in several academic and independent projects. To me, operating a camera is like shifting gears in a car or on a mountain bike. The force applied allows the camera operator to be precise in the rhythm and control of movement. It is something you have to feel — like finding the clutch biting point on an uphill climb or pedaling harder on a slope. I am particularly interested in the intimacy relationship between the operator and the subject, wrapped in the secrecy of the viewfinder.
Working on set provides me with a strong sense of purpose and engagement, which results in a kind of enjoyment that feels almost childlike. In this work, I aim for nothing less than to have fun, while maintaining the rigor and professionalism to which I am committed.
