Privacy Policy for Maitri AI Browser Extension

1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how the Maitri AI browser extension ("Extension", "we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects your data. This policy is written in full compliance with the Google Chrome Web Store User Data Privacy Policy.
By installing or using this Extension, you agree to the terms described in this Privacy Policy.
2. About This Extension
Maitri AI is a Chrome browser extension that listens to audio from your active browser tab (for example, a Google Meet call) and alerts you when your name or a chosen keyword is spoken. Alerts are delivered via browser notifications and optionally via Telegram.
This Extension:
Does NOT access your microphone.
Does NOT access your camera.
Does NOT capture system-wide audio.
Does NOT require you to create an account.
Does NOT collect your email address.
Does NOT collect your password or any login credentials.
Does NOT track your browsing activity.
Does NOT run in the background without your knowledge.
3. Data Collection
3.1 Personal Account Data (Email, Password, Login Credentials)
This Extension does NOT require account registration or login of any kind. We do NOT collect, request, store, or process:
Email addresses
Passwords
Usernames
Phone numbers
Government-issued IDs
Any other personal identity information
3.2 Tab Audio Data
The Extension captures audio from your currently active browser tab only, using Chrome's built-in tabCapture API. This audio is used solely to detect your name or keyword in real time. We do NOT capture microphone input or any audio outside the active tab.
3.3 Audio Processing
Audio is processed entirely in real time in your browser's memory. It is:
Never saved to your device's storage
Never saved to any server or database
Discarded immediately after processing
Never used for any purpose other than keyword detection
3.4 Transcription Data
To detect keywords, audio may be briefly converted to text (speech-to-text). This text is:
Held in memory for a few seconds only
Deleted immediately after keyword detection is complete
Never stored permanently anywhere
Never linked to your identity in any way
3.5 Telegram Chat ID (Optional)
If you choose to enable Telegram alerts, you will manually enter your Telegram Chat ID into the Extension. This data is:
Entered voluntarily by you
Stored only on your own device using Chrome's local storage
Used only to send you alert notifications via the Telegram Bot API
Never shared with anyone except Telegram's servers for the sole purpose of delivering your alert
Deleted from your device the moment you remove it from settings or uninstall the Extension
3.6 User Preferences
The Extension saves the following settings locally on your device:
Your chosen detection name or keyword
Your alert preferences (browser notification or Telegram)
These settings are stored only on your device and never transmitted to any server, except when Telegram alerts are enabled as described in Section 3.5.
4. Data We Do NOT Collect
To be completely transparent, this Extension does NOT collect any of the following at any time:
Email addresses
Passwords or login credentials
Real names or usernames
Phone numbers
Location data
Browser history or browsing activity
Cookies or tracking identifiers
Payment or financial information
Health or biometric data
Any data from websites other than the active meeting tab
5. How We Use Your Data
Data is used only for these specific purposes:
Detecting your name or keyword during an active browser tab session.
Displaying a browser notification alert when detected.
Sending a Telegram alert to your Chat ID if you have enabled this feature.
We do NOT use your data for:
Advertising
Marketing
User profiling
Selling or renting data to third parties
Training any AI or machine learning models
Analytics beyond what is needed for core functionality
6. Data Sharing
We do NOT sell, rent, or share your data with any third party, with the following two exceptions which are required for the Extension to function:
Telegram (only if you enable Telegram alerts) Your Telegram Chat ID and the alert message text are sent to Telegram's servers to deliver your notification. Telegram's own Privacy Policy applies to this data. No other data is shared with Telegram.
Speech-to-Text Service (only if cloud processing is enabled) If you have enabled cloud-based speech recognition (disabled by default), audio snippets are sent securely over HTTPS to a speech-to-text provider such as OpenAI Whisper or Deepgram. These providers:
Receive audio only for real-time transcription
Do not store your audio after processing
Do not use your data for training or any secondary purpose
Act solely as a processing service
If cloud processing is not enabled, no audio ever leaves your device.
7. Data Retention
Tab Audio Never stored. Discarded immediately after processing.
Transcription Text Never stored. Deleted within seconds after keyword check.
Telegram Chat ID Stored locally on your device until you delete it or uninstall the Extension.
User Preferences Stored locally on your device until you delete them or uninstall the Extension.
8. Chrome Permissions We Use
The Extension requests only the following permissions, each used for a single stated purpose:
TabCapture Used to capture audio from your active browser tab for keyword detection. Not used for any other purpose.
ActiveTab Used to identify which tab is currently active so audio is captured from the correct meeting tab only.
Storage Used to save your keyword preferences and Telegram Chat ID locally on your device.
Notifications Used to display a browser alert when your name or keyword is detected.
No permission is used beyond its stated purpose above.
9. Your Controls
You are in full control of your data at all times:
Turn Telegram alerts on or off at any time.
Delete your Telegram Chat ID at any time from Extension settings.
Change or delete your keyword at any time.
Disable the Extension at any time from Chrome's extension manager (chrome://extensions).
Uninstall the Extension at any time, which permanently deletes all locally stored data.
The Extension only activates when you manually start it. It does not run silently in the background.
10. Data Security
We protect your data through the following measures:
All external communications (Telegram, optional speech-to-text) use HTTPS encryption.
No audio or transcription data is ever written to disk.
No sensitive data is transmitted unless you have explicitly enabled a feature that requires it.
Local data is stored using Chrome's secure chrome storage API.
11. Children's Privacy
This Extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used this Extension and provided any data, please contact us at bprafullit@gmail.com and we will take immediate steps to delete that data.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when necessary. When we do, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Extension after any update means you accept the revised policy. We recommend checking this page periodically.

We do not collect email addresses, passwords, or any personal identity data.
We do not store audio or conversation data at any point.
All data collection is limited strictly to what is needed for the Extension to function.
All third-party data sharing is disclosed clearly in this policy.
Users have full control to delete all stored data at any time.
No data is used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond core functionality.
