Hello, I am Dr Sumantra Maitra, an elected Fellow at the Royal Historical Society

I am currently the Director of Research and Outreach at The American Ideas Institute, a senior writer at The American Conservative magazine, a Senior Fellow at Center for Renewing America, and a senior contributor to The Federalist.

I am also an advisor to the Congressional Greenland caucus. 


I coined the Dormant NATO doctrine, and my latest book is titled The Sources of Russian Aggression, published in 2024 by Rowman & Littlefield. 

I completed my PhD at the University of Nottingham, UK, funded by the Vice Chancellor’s PhD Scholarship for Research Excellence (International), and completed a Master of International Studies from the University of Otago, New Zealand, with Distinctions in International Politics and Global Economy. I was awarded the Coursework Masters Scholarship, at the University of Otago. 

I am a former Non-Resident Fellow at the James G. Martin Center, US, and a former National Security Fellow, at the Center for the National Interest, US, and a former analyst for The Centre for Land Warfare Studies, India.
