Lyre Builder / Jiren Lai
In 1492, Columbus, a Spaniard with a non-professional nautical background, with his sudden love for nautical exploration, opened the European era of great exploration and discovered the New World of America. In 1997, Jiren Lai, a Taiwanese luthier who was born as a non-professional luthier, took a step forward in Taiwan’s exploration of the "Great Discovery Age" of modern lyre through his love for his son and enthusiasm for Waldorf education. However, different from the history of the persecution of Native Americans 500 years ago, this expedition will write a beautiful, harmonious and peaceful history!
Today, the modern lyre in Taiwan is still like a touch of oasis in the vast desert, or a beautiful island in the ocean that is rarely known to people. Jiren who has been working for 30 years as a national stamp designer of Taiwan, was in an extremely unpopular situation when he first came into contact with the lyre fifteen years ago. Completed the first musical instrument in his life by himself, and since then he has embarked on the road of lyre making. With huge enthusiasm he has explored breakthroughs all the way, and also went to Australia for visiting two world-renowned lyre luthiers, and made a comprehensive revision of the design after returning home. And commissioned the German studio to make exclusive strings for his lyres. The overall sound quality and resonance have made great leaps forward, and finally made a professional lyre that is recognized by German music therapists. Jiren makes a full range of modern lyres (7, 27, 35, 41, 43 strings) to meet the needs of different age groups and different musical abilities.
