The Story Behind The Food Park

Meet the owners

Cherron Johnson and Hector Zayas Sr.

Cherron and Hector are Springfield locals! Cherron is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the Navy Reserve and Hector is a retired Navy Vet. When Hector moved to the neighborhood in 2016 he instantly fell in love with the close knit uniqueness of the community. His then girlfriend, now wife, Cherron quickly became a fan of the neighborhood too. They decided to put down permanent roots by purchasing a lot on Laura street and building their home together.

In 2020 the couple purchased a food truck and started NOLA's Snowball Sweets and Savory Eats. Although they enjoyed traveling around to different events and communitites, they were dreaming of a permanent, stationary set up for the truck. They had been eyeing the property on the corner of 4th and Main, where the food park is now, for over 2 years. They envisioned their truck there with seating, music, family and friends. They researched other food parks all across America and then decided to make the jump and open Main Street Food Park. They used inspiration from what they saw in other cities, but made the space uniquely their own to best serve the neighborhood and surrounding areas.

They saw this as an opportunity to not only make their own dreams come true, but to help revitilize a community they had come to love. They now live just a block away from their new business and are grateful to work in the same area they live. "It's a more personal feeling and sense of belonging. We enjoy serving a community that has been such a tremendous support in our new business venture."
