About Maine ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service)
The Maine Section ARES is organized starting from the County Level. These NGO (non-governmental organization) teams work closely with their County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) with their ARES Emergency Coordinator (EC) taking directions from the County EMA Directors through the ICS system and also working with other organizations that they may have agreements with.
The State of Maine is broken into Northern, Central and Southern districts. The Maine section is the lead at a statewide level by the Section Emergency Coordinator (SEC).
The Maine system can then expand into wider areas working with other ARES sections utilizing a modular system such as the incident command system.
Training for members is based on the ARES Taskbook and other training(s) that may be required by the county EMA offices or other served agency.
