Maine Blue Carbon State of the Science Symposium Program

Date: Tuesday, March 7, 2023

Time: 8:30 am-5:00 pm

Place:

In-person, Room 102 at the Wishcamper Center at USM (34 Bedford Street, Portland, ME)

Remote participation via Zoom, register here.

Goals of the Symposium:

This symposium aims to: 1) deliver a state-of-the science across Maine’s community of blue carbon researchers, 2) convene a shared understanding of key scientific uncertainties in the field, and 3) anticipate critical scientific needs in the near future landscape of coastal decision-making. This symposium will take stock of blue carbon science in Maine and northern New England, and will prompt discussion for strategic next steps for scientific inquiry and collaboration. The Symposium will build capacity for applied blue carbon research and align Maine’s blue carbon research agenda for a science-integrated path for coastal management and climate action relating to tidal marsh, eelgrass, and macroalgal ecosystems.
