Our problem is the nonstop phishing attacks targeting students and universities and honestly, we’re tired of it. These sneaky emails and fake links keep slipping through the cracks because there’s no solid system watching out for them. We’re here to change that by creating a smarter, more fun way to spot these attacks early and keep students safe without all the stress.
Our problem is the nonstop phishing attacks hitting college students and universities and we’re tired of watching them slip through the cracks. These fake emails trick students into giving up passwords, financial info, or personal data. Most schools don’t have a system to catch these threats in real time, and that needs to change.
The damage is real. Students get locked out of accounts, miss deadlines, and sometimes even lose money or personal info. It’s not just a tech problem, it’s a human one that messes with people’s lives.
This affects over 19 million students in the U.S., plus thousands of faculty and staff. That’s a massive group at risk every single day.
The Design Thinking Process
Our design thinking process centered on two core mindsets: Radical Collaboration and Empathetic & Human-Centered design. We worked together as a diverse team and reached out to both ODU students and ITS staff to truly understand the issue from all sides.
We learned how frustrated students were with the constant phishing emails and how overwhelmed staff felt trying to respond to them without the right tools. Their feedback helped shape our solution into something both practical and human focused, something they could actually see themselves using.
We started by talking to students, and campus IT staff. What we heard again and again was frustration, phishing emails were common, and support felt limited. One student said, “I thought it was from the billing department. Then $2000 was gone!” That stuck with us.
Seeing the problem from their perspective changed everything. We realized it’s not just about bad emails, it’s about stress, lost time, and feeling unprotected. At first, we thought it was just a tech issue, but it’s really a human one.
Our clients are students and staff who just want to focus on school without constantly worrying about cyber threats. They helped us understand that the solution needs to be simple, fast, and built with their real experiences in mind.
