Oh my, jogged my memory. The Pork Tenderlouns sold at our local Maide-Rite were fabulous.. Until mentioned I onlg remembered the maid rites. Every Memorial Day we picniced in rhe cemetary across the street from the maide rite on Main Street i Rockford, Illinois. Delishcious.. .

My mom worked at the Maid-Rite in Marshalltown,IA loved going there having A cherry coke or a yummy shake with a maid-rite a n d guys barb-b-que Chips. Miss Iowa Maid-Rites sitting around the counter with my family.

Michael, I spent summers off and on in Independence Iowa too as a young kid. I remember going down stairs to a small place to get mine and the other place was at the other end of town. My cousin tried to maid them but he added to many spices and it turned into more like a sloppy joe. I will try the curry next time. Thanks

There is a Maid Rite in Quincy Illinois which started in business in the 1925 or 26. They were one of the original maid rite stores. They are still in business today by the same family that started it in the 20s.

mAid ... Why? .. and why this name?

The existence of mAid has a simple reason. I wanted to have something where I were able to point users to when they came with issues on Windows because the most problems around were solvable when using Linux (for my special use cases) ...

The only issue with Linux (even with Ubuntu, Mint and such) is that they do not include everything an Android user needs (out-of-the-box). You still have to issue commands to install and you have to make other adjustments like udev rules etc. Nothing a "normal" Windows user can/want do without guidelining.

That was the main reason why I started mAid.

... but wait I read "FWUL" somewhere. Is "FWUL" the same as "mAid"?

At the time when I started this project everything was branded as "FWUL" (Forget Windows - Use Linux) up to v3.1 .

For v4.0 the whole project has been re-branded to mAid.

Why?

Mainly because some users thought it is an offense to Windows - which it wasn't. The idea of the FWUL name was simple: I supported a lot of users in an Android development project and mainly Windows users. The most annoying thing were driver issues as some had Samsung + LG, older and newer ... devices causing a lot of strange things. Everytime I had to let them download the same support tools and install remote sharing which was a PITA when doing it a bunch of times.. so I thought about a simple distribution which comes with everything needed right out-of-the-box ... and forget Windows. Got it? Forget Windows - Use Linux. It was never an offense but it becomes more and annoying to explain this .. and so it comes that I had re-branded everything to mAid:

a maid which helps to [m]anage your [A]ndro[id]! that's all about it :)

"Evil maid" attacks can be anything that is done to a machine via physical access while it is turned off, even though it's encrypted. The name comes from the idea that an attacker could infiltrate or pay off the cleaning staff wherever you're staying to compromise your laptop while you're out.

For an encrypted device, the most likely evil maid attacks are some form of keylogger, either physical or software. Physical loggers are all-but-impossible to detect in software but can be found by physical examination (although depending on the available space inside a laptop and how easy it is to disconnect the keyboard, it could possibly be done in a way you wouldn't see without disassembling it again yourself...).
