Our goal at Mahjong Chicago is to share our joy of the game and to teach all those interested in learning how to play, starting with Filipino Mahjong.
We consider Filipino Mahjong to be the quickest version to learn and the most fun to play. Come join us - learn a new skill and meet great folks!
There are over a dozen styles of Mahjong play. Below are just a few:
American - unique scoring using a yearly league card
British - loosely based on Chinese Classical
Chinese Classical - uses 136 tiles and simple scoring
Filipino - a combination of styles; similar to Gin Rummy
Hong Kong - uses 144 tiles
Indian
Japanese (Riichi Mahjong)
Korean - similar to Japanese style
Singaporean & Malaysian
Taiwanese
Thai Mahjong - combines elements from Chinese and Hong Kong
