Objective:

To promote energy efficiency and raise awareness among learners in the intermediate, General Education and Training (GET), and the Further Education and Training (FET) phases through a competition featuring the Poster, Creatives (Drama & Song) by producing videos which highlight the importance of energy efficiency and ways in which their school makes more efforts to save energy, and Project/Model categories. 

The main objective of this contest is to raise awareness about the importance of assuming sustainable energy behaviours in the educational sector.

Background

Mahikeng Local Municipality is participating in the Energy Efficiency Demand Side Management program that is funded by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy. One condition of the grant fund is that 1% of it must be spent on raising awareness on Energy Efficiency Awareness practices.

Following the latter, Mahikeng Local Municipality chose Schools within its jurisdiction to raise awareness in the educational sector on the importance of sustainable energy, integration of renewable energy and energy efficiency with the intention to reduce the school’s energy bill among others reasons.

Energy Efficiency is using technology that requires less energy to perform the same function. The idea is for learners to reflect on their understating of energy sustainability in the selected poster or demonstration or teams to produce videos highlighting energy efficiency.
