Mahdi Fawaz is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Sorbonne Paris Nord. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Bordeaux in 2021. Prior to joining Sorbonne Paris Nord in 2023, he was a Research Fellow at the Defence Economics Chair (IHEDN). His research is at the intersection of economics and political science, with a particular focus on the economic determinants and consequences of conflict and violence. His research focuses on the impact of terrorism, social unrest, and geopolitical risks on economic outcomes, particularly in the banking sector, industrial development, and global value chains. His recent research agenda also explores the role of ideology and strategic behavior in the targeting of civilians, as well as the spatial diffusion of armed conflicts.
