Mahdi Fawaz is a current Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Sorbonne Paris Nord. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Bordeaux in 2021. Prior to joining the University of Sorbonne Paris Nord in 2023, he served as a Research Fellow at the Defence Economics Chair - IHEDN. His research is filled with interactions between economics and political sciences. His main research interests are in understanding the role played by rivalries, natural resources or income shocks on the diffusion of armed conflicts over regions and time. Some of his current research agenda studies the role of ideologies in the targeting of civilians.
