In buddhism, music is used as a devotional offering to their Buddhas. Buddhists believe that this music will bring them good merit and do well for them and their karma. This claim can be found in various Mahayana Sutras.
Of course all music can be used to express emotions, but that means so can mahayana chant. The throat singing is usually used to express sounds of nature or feelings of calmness, but it's honestly up to the listener or singer. Everyone can interpret music differently but mahayana chant is supposed to convey meditation and peacefullness.
Mahayana chant can also be used to spread happiness and also the teachings of Buddhism. This includes spreading the bliss of "The Truth" which can awaken those who know it and bring them clarity about the truth of the universe.
