Magnetic CAM Gear Assembly

Task

Place tiny magnets into small slots in a plastic cam gear. Three magnets are placed in both top and bottom sides of the gear. Each magnet is secured with loctite.

Infeed

The gears are loaded into a feeder, by an operator. The feeder will orient gear and deliver to nest for robot.

2. Assembled

There are two rotary assembly stations both equipped with vision. The LR Mate 200iD moves the gear onto the assembly station(s). The vision system locates the slot and rotates the gear for the first placement. The Scara SR-3iA picks a magnet out of the magnet feeder and places it onto the slot. The gear is then rotated to the next slot. The second magnet is placed and the first receives the loctite.

3. Magnetization

After the assembly on the second spot is complete, the gears are placed on a staging table to dry. Once dry, they are loaded into a fixture to me magnetized.

4. Outfeed

After gears are magnetized, they are placed onto a conveyor. The conveyor will deliver them out of the cell through a small "mail slot". The mail slot is small enough that an operator cannot fit their hand through. This allows for cost savings of expensive safety devices.
