In reality, however, magic is a form of entertainment that comes in countless varieties and can be tailored to fit almost any crowd's wishes. A properly trained, versatile magician can wow audiences at a birthday party, a corporate fundraiser, and anything in between.

Magicians perform illusions to mystify and entertain audiences. They use quick hand movements and a variety of other techniques to perform classic tricks such as pulling a rabbit out of a hat or making a handkerchief disappear. They often use props, such as illusion boxes, scarves, cards, and coins.

Magic, sometimes referred to as illusion, is a performing art in which audiences are entertained by staged tricks or illusions of seemingly impossible feats using natural means.

Magicians may also make something appear to move from one place to another, or they may escape from a restraining device. Other illusions include making something appear to defy gravity, making a solid object appear to pass through another object, or appearing to predict the choice of a spectator.

In this group are included: magicians, jugglers, clowns, buskers, variety artists and other similar performers. Entertainers work in a variety of different performance areas such as juggling, magic, mime, gymnastics, storytelling, comedy and clowning in front of audiences.
