Objectives
Objectives
The project is based on the very unique and perfectly matching experience and on the most recent findings of the three collaborating groups, which have the same objective, complementary skills and have made significant discoveries in the field of the chemistry of antimicrobial compounds:
the Polish group has shown how metals can enhance the antimicrobial mode of action of AMPs by modifying their local charge, structure and/or morphology;
the Swiss PI is an expert in antimicrobial rhenium complexes, and
the Romanian group can make the antimicrobial micro/nanocarriers for the combined rhenium-AMP complexes.
Specific Objectives
Develop antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) with improved stability
Investigate the effect of metal complexes (e.g. rhenium) on antimicrobial activity
Design and produce micro/nanocarriers for delivering rhenium-AMP complexes
Study the synergistic effects between micro/nanocariers and rhenium-AMP complexes
Evaluate the efficiency of these systems against resistant microorganisms
Expected Impact
New solutions to fight antimicrobial resistance
Improved efficiency of antimicrobial treatments
Strengthening international scientific collaboration
This research is carried out and financed within the framework of the Second Swiss Contribution – MAPS (project No. IZ11Z0_230668) and co-financed by Romania under project code F-RO-CH-2024-0081.
