Stories

Hello there,

Would you like to hear a story? My friends and I know many. These stories might sound familiar, but do not be fooled; we like to change the tale from time to time, whenever it tickles our fancy. So many directions a story can take, so many outcomes.

So go ahead and pick a story! Don't be shy, my friends and I do not bite (we do nibble on pages of books from time to time, but that is neither here nor there). Our selection is listed at the top of the page.

Having trouble deciding? That's okay! Here are some (vague) descriptions of our favorite stories:

  • Metamorphosis: This story is not about a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, but about three friends. There is love, and loss, and a curse or two thrown in somewhere. A friend of mine came up with this while nibbling his way through Ovid's Metamorphosis.
  • The Monster and the Mittens: This is about two little kittens who have lost their mittens, and someone trying to return the mittens. It is based on a Tibetan folk tale that was written about a good friend of mine. This story is his point of view.
  • The Artist's Creation: I first heard this story from my cousin, who is a regular worm. It is about an artist who makes a statue out of clay. My cousin likes stories that involve clay, soil, and other forms of dirt, which explains why he likes this story more than the original story, Pygmalion, because in that story the statue made of marble.
  • The Spitting Story: This is a Native American version of Cinderella. I decided to retell it so it mostly focuses on the main character, because my butterfly friends wanted a shorter version.

Enjoy! Be sure to let us know what you think!

Sincerely,

Your friendly neighborhood Bookworm
