Young’s work is informed by pop-influenced stylization and bright palettes, incorporating the stylistic language of cartoons, comic books, and anime to comment on consumerism and nerd culture. Referencing nostalgic media such as retro toys and magazines, Young creates a clash between colorful child-like aesthetics and a resonant self-awareness of material desires.
Though concentrating on drawing and painting techniques, Young also uses other mediums to diversify her portfolio. Such mediums include printmaking (woodcut, screenprinting, and lithography), sculpture, collage, and textiles. This method allows for experimentation and enhancing the thematic experience of her artwork.
Jordan Young is a visual artist based in Dallas, Texas, and a recent graduate from the ‘Drawing and Painting’ program at the University of North Texas.
