Magic, Inc. was founded in 2023 by David Maurer. David has a diverse background, starting out more than 40 years ago as a guitar teacher in Port Huron, Michigan, and worked for a series of start-ups and corporations that ranged from educational software to SAAS, reputation management, public relations, the auto industry, jewelry design, and a host of others. 

"The advantage of working for startups early on," says David, "is that you learn how to do a lot of things simply because there is no one else to do them. I learned how to write phone reports in Perl, how to run a catalog, build an online network, build a CRM, datamine, and create marketing campaigns. And that was just the first company!"

David's first boss taught him to take good notes about what worked and what didn't, a habit that allowed him to see what KPI's and processes carried over from industry to industry and which insights were new. It also helped that most of his employers sent him to classes to help him learn more and teach other employees.

"Personality profiling and Customer for Life are probably the two non-KPI skills that have defined my career the most," says Maurer. "The first because it helps you to communicate with people more effectively, and the second because it's a life philosophy that extends not just to internal and external Customers, but to your family, friends, and everyone you meet. Giving people what they need, whether it be affirmation, support, or even just an ear makes a huge difference in almost everything. It builds trust, loyalty, and growth in a way that nothing else does."

Eventually, when the last company that he worked for was sold, Dave decided to strike out on his own as a freelance consultant - the birth of Magic, Inc. In addition to his own business experience across 40 years and more than a dozen disciplines, Maurer's notes also included the contact information for subject matter experts that he met through the years as colleagues or friends - or both - that he could turn to as subcontractors, which broadened Magic, Inc's skillset, even including website design, social media management, and TikTok videos.
