For healthy eating, the Magic Chef Countertop Microwave Oven wins because its massive 1.6 cubic foot interior handles large family meals and oversized casseroles without spilling over. If you need something slightly smaller that still delivers serious power, the Magic Chef 0.9 model in black offers a sleeker footprint with a durable ceramic interior that resists stains better than standard glass.
• Magic Chef Countertop Microwave Oven — best for large families and big platters; pick this if you need a spacious 1.6 cubic foot cavity to cook full-size dishes or multiple items at once.
• Magic Chef 0.9 — best for small apartments and dorms; pick this if you want a reliable 900-watt unit with a standard glass turntable and simple digital controls.
• Magic Chef 0.7 — best for tight spaces like RVs or break rooms; pick this if your counter space is extremely limited and you only need to heat single servings or quick snacks.
• Magic Chef 0.9 — best for modern kitchens wanting style and precision; pick this if you prefer a black ceramic interior that is easier to clean and 10 distinct power levels for delicate cooking.
• Magic Chef 1.1 — best for balanced performance in medium-sized homes; pick this if you need 1000 watts of power and one-touch presets but cannot fit the largest 1.6 cubic foot model on your counter.
This is the heavy hitter of the lineup, designed specifically for households that do not want to compromise on capacity. With a generous 1.6 cubic feet of internal space, it accommodates dinner plates, baking sheets, and even large roasting pans that would barely fit inside smaller units. The stainless steel exterior gives it a professional look that blends well with high-end kitchen appliances, while the 1100-watt output ensures food heats quickly and evenly.
I recommend this model when you are cooking for more than two people or frequently prepare frozen meals that come in bulky packaging. The 10 separate power levels allow for nuanced cooking, meaning you can simmer sauces or defrost meat gently rather than just blasting everything at maximum intensity. You also get an auto-cook menu covering popcorn, potatoes, pizza, and beverages, plus three user-programmable settings so you can save your favorite recipes for instant access later.
The trade-off here is purely physical. This unit is significantly larger and heavier than the rest of the collection, requiring a sturdy, spacious countertop. If your kitchen layout is tight or you live in a studio apartment, the sheer bulk might make this difficult to store away when not in use. However, for anyone who prioritizes cooking volume and versatility over saving inches of counter space, the extra room is worth every bit of real estate it consumes.
The first 0.9 cubic foot option represents the classic middle ground for most American kitchens. It strikes a balance between power and size, offering 900 watts of cooking energy in a package that fits comfortably on standard counters without dominating the room. The rotating glass turntable ensures that heat distributes uniformly across your food, which is critical for avoiding those dreaded cold spots in reheated leftovers.
This model is ideal for couples or individuals living alone who need a reliable daily driver for everything from morning coffee to evening takeout. The electronic controls are straightforward, featuring a digital display that makes setting times intuitive. I appreciate the express cooking function, which allows you to jump-start the heating process instantly for quick tasks like warming a cup of water or melting butter. The child safety lock provides peace of mind for parents, ensuring curious hands cannot accidentally start the cycle.

While solid, the main limitation is the standard glass interior. Over time, spills can bake onto the glass surface, requiring more scrubbing compared to non-stick alternatives found in other models. Additionally, while it includes six preprogrammed modes, it lacks the specialized ceramic coating or the extensive power level customization seen in higher-end variants. For the average user, however, this is a dependable workhorse that gets the job done efficiently without unnecessary frills.
When space is the ultimate constraint, the 0.7 cubic foot model becomes the undisputed champion. Its compact dimensions make it perfect for environments where every inch counts, such as college dormitories, office break rooms, recreational vehicles, or tiny urban studios. Despite its diminutive size, it still delivers 700 watts of power, which is sufficient for heating singles, soups, and vegetables, though you will need to be mindful of portion sizes.
I find this unit particularly useful for students or renters who move frequently. The lightweight design means it is easy to transport and set up in new locations without straining your back. The push-button door release adds a layer of convenience, allowing you to open the door with a simple tap rather than wrestling with a handle. The six preprogrammed cooking modes cover the essentials, and the auto-defrost feature works well for small portions of meat or fish.
The primary downside is the limited capacity. You simply cannot fit a large dinner plate or a deep casserole dish inside. If you try to cook a family-sized meal, you will likely have to split it into batches, which defeats the purpose of speed. Furthermore, the lower wattage means longer cooking times for dense foods compared to the larger models. If you are used to microwaving full plates, this smaller unit will feel restrictive, but for single-serving needs, it is perfectly adequate.
This second 0.9 cubic foot version distinguishes itself with a focus on aesthetics and cleaning ease. While it shares the same external footprint and power output as the previous model, the introduction of a black ceramic interior changes the user experience significantly. Ceramic surfaces are naturally more resistant to staining and scratching, meaning a splatter of tomato sauce or cheese does not stick as aggressively, making cleanup much faster and less labor-intensive.
This model appeals to homeowners who care about the visual harmony of their kitchen and want a modern, dark finish that hides smudges better than stainless steel or white plastic. The 10 power levels provide a level of control that many users find essential for delicate tasks, such as melting chocolate or keeping baked goods warm without drying them out. The LED display and kitchen timer add a touch of sophistication, while the "Add 30 Seconds" button remains a practical staple for quick adjustments.
However, the black ceramic interior, while stylish, may show water spots or dust more visibly than lighter colors depending on your lighting conditions. It is also slightly more expensive to manufacture, which sometimes translates to a higher cost for the buyer, though we cannot confirm specific pricing details here. If you value a premium feel and low-maintenance surfaces, this is the superior choice over the glass interior variant, provided you have enough counter depth for its dimensions.
The 1.1 cubic foot model sits in a sweet spot between the ultra-compact and the massive 1.6 cubic foot unit. With 1000 watts of power, it offers a significant boost in heating speed compared to the 700-watt and 900-watt options, making it excellent for busy mornings when time is of the essence. The white finish provides a clean, bright look that suits a wide variety of decor styles, from farmhouse to contemporary.
I recommend this for medium-sized households that need more capacity than a 0.7 model but do not require the full width of the largest oven. The digital interface supports one-touch presets for common items like pizza, popcorn, and frozen vegetables, streamlining the cooking process. The child safety lock is a must-have feature for families, preventing accidental activation by toddlers. The 10 power levels again offer precise control, ensuring that you can cook a wide range of textures without burning the edges.
The trade-off involves the balance of size versus power. While it is more powerful than the 0.9 models, it still requires a decent amount of counter space. If your kitchen is already cluttered, this unit might feel slightly imposing. Additionally, while the white color looks fresh, it can show dirt and grease more easily than darker finishes, requiring regular wiping to maintain its pristine appearance. For those who prioritize speed and capacity without going to the extreme size of the 1.6 model, this is a strong contender.
