2024 Aves Compartidas 4th grade team
(Maggie Combs, Ben Adams, Zo Hill Sparks)
As a member of the 4th grade team in Aves Compartidas, I taught 5 different in-class lessons including the introduction to the program, the characteristics of a bird, a bird's life cycle, why birds migrate, and what a bird can eat. The material taught here cultivated the 4th graders knowledge to prepare them for the all encompassing field trip at the end of the program.

Student work
4th grade students participated in writing, arts, and crafts in order to illustrate that they understood the content. They made and colored life cycle pinwheels to learn about the stages of a bird's life cycle. They used a field guide each week to learn about a different bird species. On the field trip, they each received a field guide to note down observations.
Infographics
The 4th grade team created 10 infographics, 5 in English and 5 in Spanish, to highlight the different species spotlight we focused on each week of in-class lessons. The infographics included details such as the bird's habitat, diet, and fun facts. In order to illustrate the theme of the 2024 World Migratory Bird Day theme of protecting birds and insects, we included a section highlighting what species of insects was associated with that weeks spotlight species.
