Cultural Programme
Mafagafonia CIC delivers a varied programme of seasonal festivals and cultural celebrations, themed family days and dress-up events, combining Brazilian traditions with local culture through music, dance, storytelling, games, creative workshops, arts and crafts, and traditional food.
Its programme includes Carnival and Junina Festivals, which celebrate Brazil’s rich cultural traditions, as well as Christmas and Halloween Parties. Each year, Mafagafonia engages hundreds of participants, with audiences of 200-300 people at small events and 500-600 at each of its Carnival and Festa Junina large celebrations.
In September 2025, Mafagafonia organised Viva Brazil 2025, its first bilingual cultural exchange event, at Woolwich Works in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, welcoming 850 participants.
Through its activities, Mafagafonia strengthens cultural identity and pride, nurtures a sense of belonging among migrant families and children, and creates welcoming spaces where people from different backgrounds can meet and share experiences. Its arts-based activities support children’s social, emotional and creative development, while its events provide valuable opportunities for migrant artists, storytellers and creative practitioners to showcase their work and engage with new audiences. By celebrating Brazilian culture as a living heritage and a bridge between communities, Mafagafonia contributes to a more inclusive, connected and culturally vibrant London.
