About Me

My name is Janet Nellys Josa. I was born and raised in the country of Panamá and I am bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English. School was my escape, my safe-haven.  Attending Department of Defense schools, I received the love, attention, and consistency from staff that I lacked from the adults in my life at home.  Fortunately, I also grew up in a community where my friends’ parents took me in as their bonus child and neighbors who had no children took me in and treated me as their own.  I spent as much time as I could outside of my home and so this is where I have come to realize as an educator that it truly, “Takes a village to raise a child.”  Because of the love, patience, and kindness that teachers, neighbors, and friends invested in me, I became a dreamer, a person who knew deep inside I would not be a victim of my circumstances rather, a victor, one who would triumph and rise above the difficulties I faced as a child. I chose to become an educator and now school leader for the very same reason.  My mission is to go beyond the textbook and reach every individual I serve in the school community to help them see that they, too, are a person of worth-valuable and capable of becoming achievers!  Once this safety and belonging has been established, then true learning can take place, school-wide.

My 5th Grade Teacher, Mrs. Patricia Sprague 1992 at Los Rios Elementary School, DoDEA Panamá, Ms. Sprague was a dynamic educator who taught me reading comprehension.

Photo of 5th Grade Classmates and I in 1992. I believe I was smiling because I felt better about myself-I could read and comprehend a text for the first time in my childhood!

July 2022-Mrs. Sprague and I reunited at the annual Panamá Canal Reunion-30 years later! I had the pleasure of being able to thank her for investing her time and believing in me!
