As a first-generation Latina pursuing a master’s degree, I am deeply committed to serving as a role model for my children, family, and the broader Latino community. Breaking barriers and achieving academic success is personal; it's a testament to the resilience and potential within our community.
Having experienced firsthand the challenges bilingual individuals face and the inequalities within our community, I'm committed to advocating for social justice and educational opportunities. My work as a bilingual teacher has deepened my understanding of the needs of students and families and fueled my desire to make a positive impact.
I want to be the voice for the families on the inside. I want schools to understand diversity, to be culturally sensitive, and to have cultural humility; no trainer can help you understand that unless you have personally experienced it yourself. So how can we make real change for the diverse community? They need me, a person of color, who speaks their language, someone who looks like them, and someone to whom they can relate.
I want to inspire others to overcome obstacles, embrace their cultural heritage, and strive for a brighter future.
