Most of my life I have been surrounded by educators. At the age of 9 I remember helping my older sisters set up their classrooms, putting books on the shelves, helping with copies. This was a yearly routine, and when it came time for me to make a decision about my career path, I decided to break away from the family teacher legacy. My resistance failed as I quickly learned that teaching and working with children was my passion. Being in the classroom and facilitating learning for the first time as an intern was all the confirmation I needed that I was where I needed to be. Now, I look back at my former self almost a decade later and am grateful for the choices, hard work, and dedication that have led me here. Now my pursuit is in continuing my education to become an even better educator through the completion of the Educational Technology Masters Program at CSULA.
I believe all children have a power within them that can be brought to light through facilitation of curiosity and opportunities for success. I will assist my student in finding this power by sharing tools that will increase their confidence as learners and citizens. Helping them to see the value in diversity, embracing difference, and feeling empowered to be proud of who they are and the work that have put in to be them.
My classroom is always our classroom, a space that my students and I share and appreciate and value and care for and can be ourselves in. A protected space. In this space we are mindful, and flexible. This means that students are provided with supports and opportunities to share their learning in creative ways. Providing students with a voice in guiding their learning and choices creates for a more engaged classroom. We are team, and together we can!
