Mady Thetard is a recent graduate of Point Park University in Pittsburgh, where she majored in theatre arts while completing a concentration in playwriting and a minor in creative writing. A playwright, director, poet, and all-around theatre creator, Mady is passionate about creating interdisciplinary works and believes that the most interesting theatre (and people!) can’t be described in just one way.
She has participated extensively as a playwright in the RLM One Acts Festival at Point Park University (How to Talk to Ghosts at Parties; It Comes At Night; In the Woods, Still I Hear Them). She often finds herself telling stories of intergenerational family, femininity, and queerness, especially through a word-focused lens.
Mady believes that a supportive rehearsal room is the key to all theatre magic. In all of her rehearsal rooms, she incorporates collaboration, interdisciplinary approaches to theatre-making, and upholds decolonial and trauma-informed processes.
In the summer of 2023, she was a Writing and Direction Apprentice at Theatre Aspen in Colorado, and in the summer of 2024, she was a Directing and House Management Intern at Theatre Nova in Ann Arbor, MI. She is currently the Community Engagement Coordinator for the Pittsburgh Playhouse. Her poetry is featured or upcoming in The Midwest Quarterly, The Gulf Tower Forecasts Rain: Pittsburgh Poems, and Brainchild Magazine.
