What is the MAD WISH programme?
Virtual English tutoring lessons for Migrant Workers
Staying indoors is the need of the hour. As we find creative ways to stay productively engaged indoors, we at ItsRainingRaincoats are also thinking about how the worker community can also use their time productively.
We're announcing a skill up programme for the migrant workers, whereby they can be taught basic, conversational English by volunteers.
A lot of workers have expressed their desire to learn or improve their English writing and speaking skills. It is also crucial to their safety at work sites here because some safety instructions and communications maybe in English. We have received feedback from supervisors and employers as well about this being a beneficial activity to improve the lives of the workers in Singapore, which is a foreign land to them.
We invite you to join us in this activity. As we practice responsible social distancing, spend an hour a week remotely talking to a migrant worker student, helping him learn the basics of English, using technology that is easily accessible to us all - a cellphone call, Hangout/ Whatsapp/ Skype/ Facetime video or even a video app, like Zoom.
