After a long pre-season of excitement and anticipation to return to club ultimate following the Covid-19 pandemic, MadMen came out ready to show off their roster depth in their regular season opener. After being tested early on in game one against RDU, MadMen's chemistry and hat spikes started clicking fast. After taking care of business through the rest of pool play on Saturday, Madison's club team used their depth to push through bracket play on Sunday and definitively claim the Select Flight Invite East title against a formidable Tanasi team out of Tennessee.

In their second regular season challenge, MadMen showed up looking quite different than their previous SFI campaign from a roster perspective. However, despite picking up some out of town players and pulling up a handful of B-team players for the weekend, MadMen continued to prove that their talent pool is as deep as any in the nation by doubling up every opponent on the weekend.

The last regular season tournament for MadMen previewed many potential sectional and regional matchups against familiar faces. Back on the field with their full strength squad, MadMen continued to rely on their strong D lines to chain together breaks that carried momentum all weekend long. Both games against DeMo proved to be the toughest matchups on the weekend, but ultimately, the Mad fellas prevailed to finish off an undefeated regular season for the first time in program history.

MadMen entered sectionals as the #2 seed behind a historically dominant Sub Zero team, but were eager to test themselves against the best of the best after a relatively weaker lineup of regular season games thus far. After decisively winning against a handful of other sectional opponents, MadMen faced Sub Zero in the finals, where they came out clicking on all cylinders and grabbed an early lead in the first half. MadMen's O-line was only broken once in the game, while their D line was able to generate lots of pressure and punch in their turns. Despite it being a seemingly meaningless game, the eventual win still resulted in a great confidence boost for MadMen and the #1 seed at regionals.

After a perfect regular season and sectionals, MadMen was finally able to stare their season-long goal in the eyes in the form of the game-to-go to Nationals vs Sub Zero. After struggling to get early leads in the MKE and Mallard games leading up to the finals, MadMen were coming in with a little more fatigue than the more efficient Sub Zero who buried their opponents early and had more time to rest. This, in combination with a handful of uncharacteristic mistakes from both the O and D lines, ultimately resulted in the first and only loss of the season for the Madison MadMen, who fell 1 game short of Nationals.Â
