My Journey
About Me
I'm currently an a junior at Smithfield-Selma Highschool in the IB Career-related program for engineering. Coming out of high school I hope to go into a 4 year university to major in something engineering related. At home I own a farm with horses and I enjoy riding in my free time. I've spent the last couple years training and competing in cross country with my horse. After school I have participated in marching band for the last three years playing the alto sax and hope to be able to do it next year as well.
Long and Short-term Goals
Within the next year I hope to be able to secure a job that's flexible with school and extracurriculars.
In the next couple years I hope to narrow down the field of engineering I am interested in through doing internships and different engineering classes so that I have a strong target for what I want going into college.
My IB Career Pathway
Ever since I was a little kid I have been really interested in taking and part and building anything I could get my hands on. After taking my first engineering class sophomore year I realized it was a field I wanted to pursue, therefore when I was given the opportunity to join IBCP I knew the engineering path was where my interest would be.
Development Reflection
Going into high school I was certain I wanted to be an artist or architect. My interest in architecture drove me to sign up for the introductory engineering class, which was the best choice I made in high school. Throughout the four PLTW classes, I discovered my love for engineering modeling software. I had no idea what kind of engineering I would go into but I knew I wanted something with modeling. When I did an internship as a civil engineer everything clicked together. I fell in love with their modeling software, AutoCAD, and the similarities to architecture that I had been attached to so long ago.
