We are the James Madison University (JMU) Madison Aerospace Club. Starting in 2022 we plan to compete in the NASA Micro-g competition.
The Micro-g Neutral Buoyancy Experiment Design Teams (Micro-g NExT) competition, challenges undergraduate students to design, build, and test a tool or device that addresses an authentic, current space exploration challenge. The overall experience includes hands-on engineering design, test operations, and public outreach. Teams will propose, design, and prototype a tool or device identified by NASA engineers as necessary in space exploration missions.
The NASA Micro-g competition was proposed by engineering students at James Madison University as a independent research project aimed to further guide collaboration and independent research at the school. This club was based on the interest and desire to prepare for Aerospace Engineering Fields and allow the opportunity to demonstrate and learn different topics and skills that are not generally taught within the curriculum. This marks the first year this project is being started and highlights the value and importance of student-driven projects that foster creativity and self-motivation within a learning environment.
The JMU Madison Aerospace club is open to all students interested in joining across all majors and grade levels. This provides a unique opportunity for collaboration and interdisciplinary fields to work together. This opportunity is paired with students across all grade levels to further build collective learning and growth, commonly seen in today's workforce.
