Design Phase
Before beginning code development, I defined the problem I wanted to address. Something I feel is highly relevant, especially in today's increasingly digital society, is the struggle with loneliness and forming connections with others. This particularly impacts those moving to new places, as it poses the challenge of meeting new people. To help tackle this problem, I chose to design my interface as a platform for people to discover events to attend and connect with others in specific cities. My project is called Get Out There!
The mission of Get Out There! is to offer a space for users to form connections. A fully implemented application version would include the ability to discover local events, view how many people are attending, and join groups of others to attend events together. There would be five sections - Events, Connect, Explore, Groups, and Profile. Events features current things going on in the featured city, along with several selection filters and types. Connect allows users to connect with other individuals who share common interests. Explore lets users view events in other cities that also include a Get Out There! platform. Groups encourages users to join specific interest groups that attend events together. Finally, Profile gives users the ability to edit or update their personal information, and change their home city location. With the combined functionality of each section, I believe Get Out There! serves as a great platform to help users meet new people and enjoy exploring their city and all it has to offer.
For the purpose of this project, only a mock-up of the events page was created, however, I am interested in extending the development of this application. A interface sketch and simple Figma design were created during the design process, and are shown below.
