Madhu Babu New Novels

Madhu Babu's fictional detectives, Shadow, Gangaram, Kulakarni, Mukesh, Bindu, Srikar became very popular during the 1970-1990s. He has also written novels in Telugu weeklies Swathi, Navya and also Nadhi Monthly. He has his own publication house. He has also written film and television scripts. In May 2022, he started his own Podcast channel on YouTube and other mediums as 'Shadow Madhu Babu (Official) Audio Books'. He started his own official Telegram group and Facebook page administered by him.

A lot of filmmakers in recent times are following a pattern where they buy the rights to a few novels, make a few changes and turn it into web series or OTT movies. When bit streaming networks like Netflix, Amazon and Hotstar approach the big names for original content, they followed the same pattern. Due to this, a lot of OTT platforms are not coming forward to produce original Telugu content.

Despite all this, director Sharath Mandava who made a disastrous directorial debut with Ravi Teja's 'Ramarao On Duty' revealed an interesting news. Apparently, he bought the rights to famous writer Madhu Babu's 'Shadow' detective novels. These novels came out in the 70s and 80s but the director decided to buy them now and create web series with them. But what he ignored is the fact that most of the sequences and ideas in Madhu Babu's novels were lifted or copied by many Telugu writers.

Many films in the 90s had scenes that were very similar to what Madhu Babu wrote in his novels. Even Trivikram took Madhu Babu's writing and used it in the childhood episode of Parthu's character in 'Athadu'. Directors like B Gopal, Kodanda Ramireddy, Muthyala Subbayya and many others lifted the scenes in his novels. Also, the level of detail in 'Shadow' novels may not attract the current generation's youth. We need to see how Sharath Mandava uses them and gives a super hit.

Director Sarath Mandava got the intellectual property rights related to those novels. His team disclosed this. It is heard that famous directors will work on the episodes of the first season, which will be made as part of the web series. Apart from Telugu, directors from Tamil and Malayalam are also wanted to participate in this web series. More details regarding this will be revealed soon.
