Christian Azzola is a filmmaker based in Kent, and the founder of MADGIO FILMS. Since 2022, he has created short films that blend everyday life with unsettling themes, using strong visuals and emotional storytelling. His work often features the Kent landscape and local talent, combining realism, intimacy, and elements of folk horror and psychological tension.
Christian co-wrote Sing (Mindenki), the Hungarian short film that won the Academy Aawrd for Best Live Action Short Film at the 2017 Oscars. Originally written in English with Bex Harvey, it was later adapted into Hungarian by director Kristóf Deák, with all three credited as writers.
In 2025 he directed Lovebirds, a six-minute romantic drama about screen addiction and emotional reconnection written by Sing co-writer Bex Harvey. It premiered at the Screen Ashford Short Film Competition and was selected for the Rob Knox Film Festival, the Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival, the Dorking Film Festival, the Birmingham Film Festival, the Folkestone Film Festival and was a Margate Film Festival semi-finalist.
Other recent films include My Mother Said (2023), The Crossing (2024), Eyes Turned Skyward (2024) and Rose (2025) which is available to watch here. His latest short film Triggered (2026) completes his Kent Quartet all of which explore themes of rural isolation, folk horror, and psychological unease.
Whether working with a full crew or on a micro budget, Christian aims to tell emotionally powerful stories. His films often speak through mood and silence, leaving space for audiences to feel. He is open to new collaborations and is keen to expand his directing work, especially in folk horror and emotionally driven narratives.
