Road Test Guidelines
Get ready before driving
Adjust the seat.
Put the seatbelt.
Adjust all mirrors.
Wait for the examiner to turn the engine on.
Once the engine is turned on, wait for the examiner to start driving.
Leaving the curb
Shift the gear to "DRIVE" position.
Turn the steering wheel to the left as needed.
Turn on left turning signal.
Watch left mirror.
Look at your left blind spot.
If clear, go.
Vehicle Control
When it comes to vehicle control, keep in mind the following aspects:
Acceleration / Braking: You should not apply pressure on the pedals. Press them smooth and wait for the car to react.
Steering control: Always steer hand over hand and keep the control of the steering wheel when turning, straight driving and maneuvering.
Use of gears: Do not forget to shift to the correct gear.
Driving in traffic
When driving in traffic keep the following aspects in mind:
Keep the right side and propper lane of traffic.
Do not follow to closely.
Do not drive too fast or too slow (15 to 25 depending on the zone).
Yield who has the right of away.
Keep good judgement in traffic.
Anticipate actions of potential hazards and pedestrians.
When changing lanes, signal, watch mirrors and blind spots.
Turning and Intersections
When approaching to an intersection, make sure you have a good judgement on:
Speed: Start slowing down the vehicle before aheading to the intersection when you are required to stop (on a red light or stop sign). If you are not required to stop, you should not stop.
Turning: Turn right after crossing the cross walk. Make sure you do not make a short or wide turn.
Stopping: If you are required to stop make sure you stop smoothly before the stopping lane. During the road test you will be taken through different types of stop signs and traffic lights. Make sure to stop once on the "STOP ALL WAY" and twice on the "STOP".
Observing: Keep observing left, forward and right multiple times before, during and after any turn or intersection.
Signal: You should turn on your turning signal as soon as the examiner ask for the next comand. Once the turning signal is on, watch the mirror and blind spot.
When making a left turn from a two ways street, the driver who is left turning is supposed to wait for the uncoming traffic in the center of the intersection before turning.
Parking & U-Turn
How to park:
Turn on the right signal, pull over stop next to the vehicle in fron of the spot where you will be performing the parallel parking.
Shift to reverse.
Turn the steering wheel once to the right.
Keep the right turning signal on.
Lower your right mirror and make sure no traffic is coming.
Check your blind spot.
Turn around, look back and start backing up.
Stop when the passenger door handle is on top of the curb.
Turn fully to the left and keep backing up.
Stop once the car is parallel to the curb.
Shift to parking position, bring the steering wheel straight, turn of the signal (if still on) and set the right mirror ready to drive again.
Wait for the examiner to ask you to leave the curb again.
How to u-turn:
If you were asked to perform a u-turn from the parking spot, shift the gear to "DRIVE", turn the steering wheel fully left, and turn on your left turning signal. But if you were asked to perform the u-turn from driving, you will have turn on your right turning signal, watch right mirror and blind spot and safely stop. From there you have to turn the wheel fully left, left turning signal and proceed to the next steps.
Once no traffic is coming, check mirrors, blind spots and go.
When the vehicle is the middle of the road, stop and shift into reverse and back up until you have enough room in front of the vehicle.
Shift into drive, turn the steering wheel fully to the left, and drive forward.
Check for traffic, signal, and merge back into traffic.
