Fall Festival Table at Toyota Field 2024
For my internship project I decided to do a table for UAH Softball at the Fall Festival at Toyota Field. They opened the gates for parents to bring their kids to trick or treat. I liked this idea because it was a good way for the softball team to get out and interact with the community and the kids. We handed out candy but we also handed out our schedule for the 2025 season. I included the schedules because I felt like it was a good way to bring more people out to our games for the season. We also let everyone know that the UAH softball team will be playing at Toyota Field in February and to come out and support us. We did that because not only will they be supporting us, they will be giving money to the Trash Pandas by using their concession stands, letting their kids play on the playground, etc. I believe that having people see us out in the community and getting involved was huge.
My project was implemented at my site by having a table set up in a desiginated spot to hand out candy to trick or treaters. I set up my table, decorated it, and waited for the gates to open. My volunteers showed up at about 4:45 p.m. and stayed until 6:45 p.m. We talked to the kids, we handed out candy and schedules. I let the kids put my glove and helmet on (the helmet was a new one that hasn't been used), and I even gave the ball away to a little boy who wanted it. We met a lot of people and even got to meet some little softball players. The main goal was to bring supporters out to our games and get involved in the community. We put smiles on a lot of little girls faces when they saw us standing there in our jerseys.
My project was relevant/beneficial to my future career aspirations because it helped me get a little insight into planning an event and making it successful. I am sure that no matter where I end up working in the future that there will be times where I will have to help plan an event or plan things for a game. Even though it was just a small table handing out candy and schedules, there was still a lot of planning involved. I had to find a table and chairs to use. I had to find some softball players to come out and volunteer for a few hours. I emailed Brooke Lack, the event coordinator, about being able to have a table and about the further information about the event. I also emailed Ryan from Costco to try and see if he would be willing to do a candy donation. I spent over $150 from my own pockets for enough candy for 2,000-4,000 people. I had to buy a tablecloth and buckets to put the candy in. I had to figure out what I wanted to put out on the table. I had to print off more schedules than I can imagine to hand out.
How it benefitted the Trash Pandas?
My project not only benefitted me, but it also benefitted the Trash Pandas as well. The UAH softball team will be playing there in February along with several other D1 schools. We handed out schedules to everyone that stopped by our table and informed them that we would be playing there and would love for them to come out. Not only does them coming out to support us it benefits the Trash Pandas as well. The fans will be visiting their stadium and seeing how lovely it is. It also benefits them with revenue wise. These fans will be buying items from their concession stands and can even stop by the team store and shop around. Not only did we make small conversation about our season and us playing there, but we also talked about how much we love Trash Panda baseball and how much they have to offer at their stadium. This event also benefitted the Trash Pandas because I feel like we were so active with the kids and I even gave one of my softballs to one of them. Just by being active with the kids and parents would help bring them back for future events.
