ReadCue is a hobby project I started to solve a personal need. I’d love to hear your ideas! While I can’t promise to implement every suggestion, I’ll gladly consider them. Thanks for your patience and kindness as I develop it in my spare time.
ReadCue works with Chrome’s built-in Reading List to show whether the page you’re visiting is saved, unread or previously read. For supported YouTube videos, it uses watched and unwatched wording.
Opening a page or playing a video does not automatically mark it as read or watched. These statuses reflect your manual choices.
ReadCue processes the following information locally within your browser:
Open-tab URLs, to check Reading List status.
The current page’s title when you add it to your Reading List.
Reading List entries, including saved URLs, titles, read/unread status and timestamps.
Pending removal requests and the information needed to manage their Undo countdowns.
URLs and titles may contain personal information. ReadCue uses this information only to provide its Reading List features. The developer cannot access it remotely.
ReadCue does not access Gmail, Google Drive, cookies, passwords, forms, article body contents or Chrome’s historical browsing-history database. It does process current open-tab URLs, but does not maintain a historical browsing log or track video playback.
For efficient status checks, ReadCue stores a temporary Reading List index and per-tab status in Chrome’s local session storage. Session data is cleared when the browser restarts or the extension is reloaded, updated, disabled or removed. Per-tab status is also removed when its tab closes.
Pending removal requests are stored locally on your device so their countdowns can survive popup closure and browser restarts. These records include the entry’s URL, title, status, original timestamps, removal deadline and any failure message.
Completed or cancelled removal records are deleted. Failed removal records remain until dismissed or replaced by an explicit retry. Uninstalling ReadCue removes its local extension data, but does not delete your Chrome Reading List.
If you grant optional website access, ReadCue uses it to display a small, temporary status notice within webpages. It does not read or transmit the surrounding page content.
Reading List checks continue to work without this permission. Native notifications are used as a fallback, subject to your browser and operating-system settings.
You can revoke optional website access through Chrome’s extension settings.
ReadCue adds pages or changes their read status only when you request the corresponding action. Removal happens only after an explicit request and its Undo window. Using Undo before removal cancels the request without changing the saved entry.
Existing saved URLs are not rewritten. Newly added entries may use a cleaned URL with supported tracking parameters removed.
Cross-device synchronization is provided by Chrome, not ReadCue, and depends on your Chrome account and synchronization settings. ReadCue does not use Chrome’s extension sync storage.
ReadCue does not make external network requests or transmit data to developer servers. It does not collect analytics or telemetry, sell user data, or use it for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness or lending decisions.
Its use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information is used only for ReadCue’s stated Reading List features.
Local diagnostic messages may appear in Chrome’s developer console. They are not sent to the developer.
If you contact us by email, we receive the information you choose to include. Please remove personal URLs and other sensitive information before sending screenshots or diagnostic logs.
This policy describes the extension’s data handling. This website is hosted by Google Sites, and Google’s own privacy policy applies to information processed by that hosting service.
