Description: This week, I had to pick three topics in the network unit and relate them to current events. All events are recent' happening within the last three years. The topics I choose were identity theft, ransomware attack, and hacking. Above each topic, you will be able to see each news article I used.
He currently faces 12 years in prison for identity theft. he used the stolen identities from Florida residents in order to get fraudulent unemployment insurance benefits from California. Identity theft is a very real and dangerous thing. Basically, you are taking someone's identity and using their name for almost anything. This causes much trouble for people because they are being blamed for things they did not do.
Ransomware attacks are another serious thing. It is difficult to see something coming and to stop it from happening. Hackers take over the system to where only they have access to it. They can change and stop anything from happening from within what they hacking. The Justice Department is always looking for people to do this because they don't want anyone having access.
“An unauthorized third party obtained access to a limited amount of personal information for a portion of our customers,” the company revealed while emphasizing that the breach had since been contained and that there had been “no financial loss to any customers.” Hacking allows anyone to steal any information or money from any website or company. The hacker and the take this information and share it with anyone. Once hacked, you don't know if you will get that information or money back.
Lessons Learned: I learned about all three topics I researched and how identity theft, ransomware attack, and hacking happen so often. All three things affect so many people, and cab used in very harmful ways.
