My group chose violence as our umbrella topic and I decided to make my podcast on the changes that need to be made regarding domestic violence and where we’re at regarding policies and protocols involving health care providers, teachers, and police officers. I introduce a renowned feminist name Beverly Gooden who invented the #WhyIStayed movement in response to Ray Rice being caught on film physically abusing his partner. I felt it was important to include her as an example of the role of feminism in domestic violence and to add an example of someone who is making changes regarding the issue. I myself am someone who has been affected by domestic violence and would like my podcast to ultimately raise awareness to a controversial issue that has little research done on. Many people are affected by violence and I want the term domestic violence to be redefined so that it can fit our social norms involving my group member topics that included religious violence, handicap violence, and racial violence and in many other forms. I tried to look at it from a hate crime perspective that not only educates the listener but makes them intrigued to know more about the issue of domestic violence.
